The Charity was formed in September 1992 to help support the reopening of the Hospital at Rye. The Charity was then registered as a company limited by guarantee without a share capital in September 1994 under the name Rye Health and Care Limited. At this point in time, the Hospital at Rye was in the process of being rebuilt following its closure by the NHS. The Charity’s name was changed to Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital Limited in December 2010.
Our charitable purposes are the relief, care and assistance of people, irrespective of race, creed or colour, who suffer from any form of mental or physical sickness or disability or infirmity due to old age or who are convalescent and to promote the preservation and protection of health for the public benefit.
The Board of Trustees/Directors consists of local, community minded individuals who each bring an area of expertise to the Charity. The Board are committed to maintaining the relevance and effectiveness of the Charity for the ongoing benefit of the wider community through the pursuit of a set of strategic objectives.
The Charity currently employs a small team of full and part time staff as structured here.
Following discussion with the existing League of Friends charity (1002949) it was agreed that the Charity should absorb the League of Friends in September 2013 as the two entities had a common purpose. The Charity has gone from strength to strength since that date with the unwavering support of the local community.
