The Community Midwives provide midwifery-led care in a number of settings including a regular outpatient clinic at Rye Hospital. This service is offered for women and their babies during pregnancy and up until one month after the birth.
At your first appointment your midwife will gather information regarding your medical history (and that of your family), physical and mental health, domestic situation and occupation if you have one. Your height, weight and blood pressure will be measured, and you will be provided with information about your developing pregnancy. At each of the subsequent appointments your midwife will test your urine, monitor your blood pressure and discuss any concerns that you might have including the results from any scans or tests if required. From 24 weeks your midwife may use a device to allow you to hear your baby’s heartbeat.
You do not need to see your GP to arrange your initial referral as its possible to submit a direct online referral yourself. You can also contact the Community Midwives directly for early pregnancy/pre booking consultations by calling either of their mobile numbers (Bev 07900 680622 or Mandy 07901 670102) or contacting the Hastings team based at East Hastings Children’s Centre (direct line 01424 726484). The Community Midwives’ work mobiles are only switched on when they are working so please allow a few days for them to respond if they are not at work. Appointments are available at the Rye Hospital clinics from Monday to Friday.
The Community Midwives are committed to providing personalised care and to making your experience of pregnancy as safe and fulfilling as possible.
